Pump-demo - Technical information

By using XHTML-code validated by W3C (http://www.w3.org) Pump-Demo is as cross-browser compatible as it’s possible. The system has been tested with the following browsers: PC - Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera; Mac - Mozilla Firefox; Safari. Pump-demo runs on Internet Explorer 5.5 and Netscape 4. Even Internet Explorer 5.0 should work, but in some cases an error might occur.

The design of Pump-Demo can be customized with backgrounds and colours to match the layout of the company's website. The language used in Pump-Demo can be customized to reflect the words and phrases used by your company. It is also possible to set-up the system with several languages.

Pump-Demo can be configured to prevent unauthorized use. By denying access for all requests, accept those with a specific URL as HTTP-referrer, Pump-Demo can only be started by clicking on a link at a certain web site.

Pump-Demo can be set-up in a cloaked frame. It can operate with metre/litre, feet/gallon or both. Links to the system can easily be designed to start Pump-Demo with a preloaded pump model. Access to certain pumps can be restricted with a password.

The administration area

The admin-area of Pump-Demo is password protected and has the following basic features:
+ Adding, hiding and removing pumps.
+ Sorting pumps so that they will be displayed in the desired order.
+ Edit the language of the system.
+ View basic analysis of use.
+ Tracing broken links.
+ Loges and backups of all changes made in the admin-area are stored automatically.

Future development

The system has been in constant development since the first version that I wrote for our family run garden centre, over seven years ago. The current version was launched two years ago, when I sold a licence to the biggest pond supplier in north Europe – PondTeam AB. At present time, we are n the process of fine-tuning a new feature for PondTeam, which will add a function for demonstrating fountain nozzles and display the heights of fountains with different pumps. Later this year, this feature will be available to all Pump-demo customers. In the future, I see filtration as a third function in Pump-demo. It would make Pump-demo an almost complete demonstration system regarding everything that involves pumps in the fields of water gardening.
